Your Audio Systems Revolutionizes Software Development for AES67 and AES70 Embedded Devices at ISE 2018

Swiss-based IP audio and control specialist to debut Orchestra, the world’s first commercially available software platform for building AES67/AES70 professional embedded devices

ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, January 29, 2018 In preparation for its ISE debut, Swiss-based Your Audio Systems announces the first major demonstration of Orchestra, an embedded Linux software solution for OEMs seeking to minimize product design costs and complexity. The company will exhibit Orchestra in the OCA Alliance stand (7-R240) in the Amsterdam RAI from February 6-9.

Orchestra differentiates itself from other digital audio networking solutions by eliminating the need to use expensive hardware, proprietary chips and modules, or other hard foundations like FPGAs for AES67 and AES70 device building. The company’s approach focuses on embedded software implementations that can natively integrate both of the aforementioned standards on a common platform, which allows simultaneously management of AES67 audio and AES70 control signals over time-sensitive IP networks once deployed.

Until now, manufacturers that wanted to build an IP-connected audio product, such as an interface or a loudspeaker, were forced to use proprietary foundations and functional blocks,” said Petr Kulhavy, CEO and Founder, Your Audio Systems. “Orchestra provides vendors with a cost-efficient means of achieving a complete software endpoint AES67 and/or AES70 implementation on their main CPUs using a purely software solution.”

Orchestra’s embedded AES67 implementation, which currently supports eight audio channels with a development roadmap to support larger multichannel deployments, is ideal for AV systems and environments that depend on ultra-low-latency. Orchestra’s small program size, which minimizes use of memory, cache and storage, enables embedded implementations that are not possible with other pure software options. The result is a pure Linux-based embedded software platform that reduces audio latency to two or three milliseconds, versus 10-20 milliseconds for a non-embedded desktop software implementation.

Orchestra adds another important layer to managing decoded audio signals over time-sensitive networks with embedded AES70 support. This provides the added benefit of seamless control and management of audio devices operating on the network, ensuring a harmonious solution where adjusting volume levels, enabling firmware updates and establishing network connections are seamlessly addressed alongside audio routing and distribution.

Orchestra breaks new ground by using defined, complementary standards at the core of the solution instead of attempting to merge them with proprietary protocols,” said Kulhavy. “Our embedded approach is optimized for Linux, which offers a lean implementation for customers while accommodating audio, control, clocking and everything else that AV environments require for a harmonious, interoperable networking solution.”

Visitors to the OCA Alliance booth can see Orchestra in action with Bosch encoding solutions, Genelec speakers and other equipment to demonstrate interoperability.
